German/EnglishHYgieia
Nothing can cure the
soul but the senses,
just as nothing can cure
the senses but the soul.
Oscar Wilde
Old and young, men and
women
seek shelter in Hygieia’s
shade. Holding aloft the at-
tributes of physicians and
pharmacists, the Aesculapian
snake and the crystal bowl,
she stands strong in the face of
threats to health. On the way to
paradise, the water in the bowl
makes those who drink it forget
all earthly suffering. Hygieia’s
rules are the same for every-
one—the virus knows no social,
national, or gender boundaries
or differences.

Flora
&Pan
While she spoke, her lips
breathed vernal roses.
Ovid
Lovely, fair, and beauteous,
the youthful nymph Flora looks
after the splendid blooms en-
trusted to her care. With the
awakening of nature in spring-
time she comes into her own as
the personification of hope and
new beginnings, symbolized in
a colorful festival of life.
God of nature and the wild,
Pan traverses his realm playing
his flute. Half he-goat, half hu-
man, this extraordinary being
is both fun-loving and sinister.
The shepherds call on him to
protect their flocks, while re-
garding him with fascinated
curiosity as well as fear of the
unknown and unfamiliar.
